LNGA Set to Host Amateur Championship at The Grizzly July 25-27
Mason, OH – The Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) is set to host it’s 93rd Annual
Amateur Championship July 25 – 27 at The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge in Mason, Ohio. The
competition will have three rounds (54 holes) of Stroke Play to determine the champion, who will
be awarded the George III Amateur Trophy.
Teams of two or three from Universities, High Schools, and Clubs will compete for the Howell
Team Trophy by posting the lowest 3-day combined score at the end of the tournament. Players
ages 18 and younger will have the chance to compete for the Dorothy Pease Junior Trophy.
The Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge, formerly known as the Jack Nicklaus Sports Center, has
hosted other prestigious golf events, including over a decade of LPGA Championships, the PGA
Tour’s Ohio Kings Island Open, and the Senior PGA Tour’s Kroger Senior Classic.
“We are excited to bring this historic championship and best in class field of players to
Southwestern Ohio,” said LNGA President Nancy Sebastian. “The course is a terrific venue for
our players, their families, and the expected fans from the Mason area.”
Player Highlights:
Bailey Davis, 19-year-old outgoing freshman from the University of Tennessee, competed as
the only Black golfer in the 156-player field for the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles in June.
Leah and Hannah Herbel, 19-year-old twins from North Dakota competing for the Howell Team
Trophy for Hawktree Golf Club. The two helped Bismarck (North Dakota) Century to three team
state titles during their middle school and high school careers.
Martha Leach, 61-year-old golfer from Hebron, KY, is a USGA National Champion, University of
Georgia stand out, and 2009 champion of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in
Ocala, FL. Her sister, Hollis Stacy, was inducted into the Georgia golf Hall of Fame in 1991 with
the Stacy family being named the 1985 “Golf Family of the Year” by the USGA.
Sophie Linder, 17-year-old golfer committed to Ole Miss, recently made history by becoming
the first person to win both the Tennessee Women’s Open and Tennessee Junior Amateur
championship titles in the same year.
Mary Keene Marrs, 19-year-old golfer representing Eastern Kentucky University, was named
The Kentucky Golf Association’s 2022 Player of the Year.
Julia Potter-Bobb, 32-year-old golfer from Indiana, is a two time US Mid-Amateur Champion as
well as the first female left-handed champion in USGA history. She is one of teh most decorated
female amateur golfers from Indiana.
