Lake St. Louis, MO-  Kelly Xu of Claremont, Calif. is going to need a bigger suitcase to take all of her awards home. Xu claimed the Championship title, the Junior Medalist title, and assisted in the win of the Howell Team Trophy at the Ladies National Golf Association’s 92nd Amateur Championship. The 92nd playing of the event took place over two days at Lake Forest Country Club and was shortened to a 36-hole tournament in light of the severe weather in the area.

The eighteen-year-old incoming Stanford freshman scored an impressive 68-72 for a final score of 4-under par 140 (68-72). She shot six birdies with only two bogeys the entire tournament. This led Xu to not only take home the George III Amateur Trophy, but also the Dorothy Pease Junior Trophy which is for competitors ages 18 and under.

“I had a lot of close shots, a lot of looks at birdie so I felt really good and had a really good mindset,” said Xu. “Today I had only eight holes left to play so it was harder to get into the groove of things…but it was fun.”

Reagan Zibilski of Springfield, Mo, and Marissa Wenzler of Dayton, Ohio shared runner-up honors after finishing at 3-under par (69-72) (72-69).

Stanford University took home the Howell Team Trophy. Xu, along with teammate Sadie Englemann of Austin, Texas shot par or better during both rounds as a group to shoot 6-under (140-142-282) and win the trophy.
