Hailey Jones Shoots Six Under to Dominate an International Field

Jones Has A Hot Start At The 93

rd LNGA Amateur Championship

Mason, OH – Hailey Jones posted a six under par, 66, first round to jump into a big lead at The
Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) Annual Amateur Championship at The Grizzly Golf
and Social Lodge in Mason, Ohio. The field includes past USGA Champions and a strong
contingent of college and junior players. Players from three different countries and 15 states are
playing in the 54-hole tournament on July 25 – 27.
The rain-softened 6,400-yard par 72 Grizzly Course proved to be a tough test of golf for much of
the field, but Haley Jones didn’t seem to notice. She posted a 66 on her first round 32-34 which
included six birdies and no bogeys. This is her first time playing in the state of Ohio.
“I hit a lot of good shots today, the putter was really working,” Jones said. “I’ve been working on
some things with putting and today it really paid off.”
Jones is a fifth-year graduate transfer from Oklahoma State and will join the Texas State
University Golf Team in the fall.
Despite having a six-shot lead, she has a pack of competitors ready to chase her down. Three
players are tied for second at even par after the first round, including Ohio State University’s
Faith Choi, Arkansas’ Giovanna Fernandez, and Northwestern’s Jiayi Wang.
The second round tee times will begin at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday at The Grizzly. Live scoring
