Stacked Leaderboard at 94th LNGA Amateur Championship

Hot Springs, Arkansas – The opening day of the 94th Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) Amateur Championship at Hot Springs Country Club saw a thrilling start with a tightly contested leaderboard. High schoolers and seasoned veterans alike have positioned themselves at the top, setting the stage for an exciting tournament.  

Leading the pack are high school phenoms Scarlett Schremmer, Thanana Kotchasanmanee, and Vanderbuilt sophomore Sara Im, each firing an impressive 4-under 68. Their stellar performances have them tied for first place, showcasing the incredible young talent competing this year.

Close on their heels is University of Kentucky’s Laney Frye, who is a 2023-2024 Golfweek All-America Honorable Mention. She is just one shot back at 3-under 69.

The leaderboard remains highly competitive with fourteen players within two shots of the lead, promising a fierce battle in the coming rounds.

T1 Thanana Kotchasanmanee – 4-under 68

4 Laney Frye – 3-under 69

T5 Bentley Cotton – 2-under 70

T5 Molly Smith – 2-under 70

T5 Kate Tilma – 2-under 70

T5 Sophie Linder – 2-under 70

T5 Meghan Stasi – 2-under 70

T5 Lauren Olivares Leon – 2-under 70

T5 Chloe Tarkany – 2-under 70

T5 Maelynn Kim – 2-under 70

T5 Emily Mathews – 2-under 70

T5 Cory Lopez – 2-under 70

The Howell Team trophy race is also tight, with The University of Texas, University of Arkansas, and Duke University all within three shots of each other.  The impressive Howell Team trophy is awarded at the conclusion of play to the lowest scoring two-person team at the event. The team retains the trophy for one year.

LNGA Board President Nancy Sebastian expressed her excitement over the strong start, stating, “It’s fantastic to see such a mix of youth and experience at the top of the leaderboard. The level of competition is incredibly high, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the tournament unfolds.”

The second round starts tomorrow at 7.30 am and the field will be paired by score.
